How to Track the Best Times to Become Pregnant

By Dana Hardek September 30, 2016
When's the best time to get pregnant? Do you know when your most fertile days are? If you're trying to get pregnant right now, or are planning on it at a certain point, then you're probably wondering how you can help the process along!

Luckily, there are a lot of options that you have today to determine the best time to try to become pregnant. There are countless resources online and plenty of products too. Here are a few that we've gathered to help you out:

Fertility Apps
There are many kinds of apps available to make the work that's involved with finding your most fertile days easy.

Glow uses data that you enter into the app to help you conceive more quickly. You can set medication, ovulation, contraception, and period tracker reminders, plus make charts of your menstrual, ovulation, and fertility data. Glow also tracks male fertility, because why should women have all the fun? It's is a great all-around app with plenty of useful features.

Another helpful choice is Natural Cycles, a fertility-tracking app that prompts you to enter your basal body temperature readings and the days when you have had your period, then uses an algorithm to help you find the window of your best ovulation days.

Ovulation Predictor Kits
Ovulation kits can help improve your chances for pregnancy by pinpointing the times you're most likely to conceive.

Urine-based Kits. These kits are simply sticks, much like many of the pregnancy tests on the market, that will show either one line (not ovulating) or two lines (ovulating) when placed in urine. They work by detecting an increase of luteinising hormone (LH), which surges during the time your egg is released into your Fallopian tube. This is the best time for conception!

Salivary-based Kits. As your estrogen levels begin to rise, your saliva slightly changes its composition. Saliva fertility test kits like KnowWhen allow you to track your ovulation cycles using a drop of saliva, identifying the best days to conceive.

Do It Yourself
The DIY option uses good old pen and paper to determine your most fertile times. You can track your cycle simply by printing out a basal body temperature chart and buying an easy-to-read digital basal thermometer at a local drug store.
