Fun and Fantastic Gender Reveal Ideas

By Dana Hardek January 29, 2016
Boy or girl? There’s nothing more exciting than learning if you’re going to be decorating in blue or pink! Whether you’re finding out for yourself, or you’re announcing the news to family and friends, here are a few fun ways to tell the world what your baby’s gender will be.

Sweets
This is a surprise that will satisfy your sweet tooth! Give a baker an envelope with your baby’s gender, who will then bake pink or blue into cakes or cupcakes. Invite friends and family over, then cut into the cake that’s been filled with pink or blue icing, colored candy, or food-colored cake batter. Rejoice at the news and then let all of your guests eat cake!

Balloon Launch
Pack a box with pink or blue balloons. When the big moment arrives, unwrap the box and let the balloons fly. This will announce the baby’s gender, and you’ll have a perfect Kodak moment.

Toy Box
This is a great idea for a workplace gender reveal! It’s easy: your co-workers collect some money from your colleagues, and then give trusted friends your “gender reveal” envelope. They’ll shop for a few gender-specific toys like trucks or dolls, pack them in a box, and everyone watches as you unwrap your gift and open the box to discover what's inside.

Sibling Love
If you have kids who are old enough to get in on the act, hang a piñata that’s been stuffed with blue or pink confetti and candy, and let them whack away until the goodies — and the secret — come spilling out. Or, if your kids are old enough to have fun with silly string, wrap a couple blue or pink cans of the stuff with colored paper so they can’t tell what color they have, and tell them to spray it everywhere while you catch it on video.

Picture Perfect
Tell everyone if you're having a boy or girl by sharing pictures on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. This is a great way to personalize your announcement by showing you and partner with an item that shares the gender. Ideas include showing mom’s and dad’s shoes — then in between them, tiny pink sandals or blue tennis shoes. Or, have a sibling-to-be wear a shirt that announces “It’s a girl!” with the proud parents standing behind.
